Immigration Project (due 9/28)

American History 10- Immigrant Project
Directions: Interview an immigrant to the US or someone who can answer all of these questions in place of the immigrant in case they are deceased or for another reason.  Step 1- All students must ask the questions and fill out the answers.  Interviewed people may not fill this out.  Students must record the answers themselves in order to learn.  Step 2- Students may choose between making an attractive and informative poster (see class examples) or writing a narrative essay with formal English writing rules.  Step 3- Students must present their findings to the class on 9/28.

  1. Name of person interviewed
  2. Name of person the story is about (obviously it can be the same person for #1 and 2)
  3. How do you know this person?
Interview starts- Ask them these questions
  1. Country of origin?
  2. Date you came to the US?
  1. Where did you arrive?
  1. How did you arrive?
  1. Why did you leave your home and come to (Gloucester)?
  1. What did you do for work or with your life in the old country?
  1. What did you do after coming to the US?
  1. What do you do now?
  1. Who did you travel with and where did these people end up?
  1. What family or friends were left in the old country?
  1. How much contact have you had with the old country?
  1. How would you characterize your life in America?
  1. Do you regret coming?  Why or why not?
  1. Did you speak English before you came?  To what extent?
  1. How is your English now in comparison?
  1. How did you learn English?
  1. What do you like better about the old country?

  1. What do you like better about America?
3 rubrics provided for grading.  Students will be graded on the oral presentation rubric and the visual rubric, or the oral presentation rubric and the written rubric
